Baby, it is definitely cold outside.
And while winter doesn’t officially arrive for more than two weeks, the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland understands that:
a) The snow flies in Northeast Ohio long before the calendar says it should;
b) That’s as good a reason as any to throw a fabulous soiree — the second annual Winter Party.
“It’s just going to be the most fabulous thing anyone could do on Dec. 12,” says Mary Zaller, the Center’s director of sponsor and donor relations.
Cleveland’s leading queer organization has brought together a mix of nonprofits and groups for a grand community-wide party. Included in the fun will be Cleveland Pride, Cleveland Black Pride, People of All Colors Together, Plexus, PuNane’, the Rainbow Wranglers and TransFamily.
“Each of those groups contributed and each is inviting their own members so that they don’t have to have their individual holiday party,” Zaller says, “so it can be a true ‘family’ holiday party.”
It all starts at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, in the gallery at Tregoning and Co. (1300 W. 78th Street in the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood of Cleveland). (Read more about Bill Tregoning and his gallery in our earlier Spangle profile.)
For $35 ($40 at the door), attendees will get to check out an exhibit of gay artist Andrew Reach’s vibrant and graphical art. (Check out that Spangle profile here.) And you’ll dine on a variety of tasty bites from Latitude 41n (profiled here — synergy, folks!), including stuffed seafood mushroom caps, chicken teriyaki, artichoke dip, quesadillas and sweet treats. A cash bar will feature beer, wine and special martinis.
Providing holiday entertainment will be Stolen Moments, a jazz trio that readers may remember from this year’s Garden Party.
“It’s definitely going to be a festive and fun mood,” Zaller says, “and the music is really going to help set that.”
The Winter Party will also be your last chance at getting in on the raffle to see the Late Show with David Letterman in New York. Tickets are one for $5 or five for $20; you can also buy them online, and you don’t need to be present to win.
“These tickets are literally priceless because you can’t buy them anywhere,” Zaller says.
Any money raised will go to the Center’s programming, but “it’s not a big fundraiser,” she adds. “It’s more to have a ‘family’ holiday party.”
